GILPY BREAKS DOWN AT JUAREZ. Speedy Racer from Yanke Stable Had Been Heavily Backed to Win Feature Race. El Paso, Tex., January 13. Ideal racing weather prevailed at Terrazas Park today and a well-balanced card attracted a tine attendance. The fourth race was the feature of the day and marked the appearance of W. G. Yankcs speedy Gilpy, which had thus far been unbeaten at the meeting. He was heavily backed to win the race, but when leading by a commanding margin, was seen to falter at the three-eighths post and was pulled up by the rider owing to his having broken down. The fourth and fifth races proved contests of the most exciting order, the fields running well bunched all the way with the winner In doubt until the last few yards. Luna Bcall, favorite in the first race, threw hOr rider on the way to the iost, then jumped the fence, which probably affected her chances of winning. She afterwards ran away the circuit of the track after passing the finish line. Jockey J. Howard was cautioned by the stewards for rough riding in the first race. Jockeys Murphy and Keogh were suspended for live days each by starter Cassidy for disobedience at the barrier. Crossover, winner of the sixth race, was bid up to by J. Pinkstaft and was bought in by owner F. W. Healey. A. Groenleve arrived from Oakland today with the horses of E. M. Fry and J. M. Stokes. J. II. MacDonald traded Nethermost for Creston today.
