JACKSONVILLE WANTS RACING, The race meeting at Moncrief is fast coming into its own. The Clyde steamships have brought record numbers for the season on their last trips, and all the other boats from New York and Baltimore have full reservation to away up. iu February. Every train from the nortli and west brings its full quota of visitors, and the prediction is freely made that tlie tourist travel to Florida will break all records this winter. The bitter weather in the north and west has hurried the travel, and many new faces are seen dally on the quarter stretch. There is a strong sentiment crystallizing here for the perpetuation of racing in Jacksonville. The raising of the price of admission to was n shrewd move on the part of the management, as it took away temptation from those who cannot afford to go to the races. Tho result is that there is a much better feeling locally this year than last, and if it were left to a referendum vote of local residents, there is not tho slightest doubt that the track would become one of the citys permanent fixtures. Never in the history of tho town lias there been such prosperity: every merchant reports a record business, and one and all admit that they would be loth to lose the patronage of the racing colony.
