TAMPA ATTENDANCE RECORD BROKEN. Tampa. Fla., January 20. Ladies day and a race for gentlemen riders attracted one of the biggest crowds ever assembled to witness the decision of a racing card in this locality. The race for gentlemen riders was won by Aleneon, ridden by Mr. Alderman. Ben Sand, on which Mr. Lykes had the mount, was second and Mr. Moody, on. Niblick, landed third. The winner, in addition to a handsome silver cup, was awarded the thoroughbred Stepfather. Several persons engaged in fisticuffs after the race as a result of disparaging remarks concerning Mr. Lykes ability as a rider. Speculation this- afternoon was the" greatest of any day this season. M. May will ship Gerando and O. K. Ilerndon to Jacksonville. A. Matthews has signed a contract to ride for D. C. Evans for the remainder of the season here. Advices from Covington. Ky., are to the effect that Lyman II. Davis, secretary of the New Louisville Jockey Club, is progressing nicely and probably will resume his racing duties shortly. The judges were dissatisfied with the ride Whip Top received in the last race and warned jockey F. II. King that he would have to display more energy if he wanted to continue riding here. Whip Top was claimed by J. Bryan for 40.
