Bcttic Hue, ready, to go to the post at Juarez. Bettie Sue has done nicely in her training at the Mexican course. .Mettle Bercaud has been turned out in Kentucky all -winter and trainer Wayne. Lewis will take her up upon his return from Juarez iu a few days. Mr. Lewis will yisit G. W. J. Bissell. for whom he trains, in Pittsburg and then proceed to Kentucky to get together a new string of horses for the coming spring and summer lacing campaign. He will do his spring training at Churchill Downs. Concerning the California situation, the San Francisco Chronicle says: "All signs point to the end of racing ir California, but some optimists are looking forward to the sport continuing across the bay for at least the 100 days scheduled and maybe longer. Until final action is taken at Sacramento, however, the situation will likely hang lire, and the race track people are waiting before making future plans." Few horses can show such a record in connection -willi one race as J. B. Joels Dean Swift can in the Citv and Suburban Handicap at Epsom. He has run in this race for seven consecutive years. Twice he won, twice lie was second and twice third. Only once was lie out of the money, and the race never had small fields, the number of starters ranging from thirteen up to twenty-one. He is entered for the 1011 renewal of the race. The funeral of jockey Charlie Phair. who was killed in a race at Port of Spain. Trinidad, on New Years Jav, took place yesterday at Toronto. Letters -mid papers from Port of Spain tell the story of the fatalitv, which occurred as the loy was winning a race on the last day of the island season. He was well in front, and near the finish when his mount struck into one of the posts marking the course, which is not railed, as courses are here. Jlie rider was thrown .against the post and death was instantaneous.
