CHRISTOPHER FITZGERALD QUITS TURF. New York. February 21. Christopher J. Fitzgerald, a well-known racing official, has resigned bjs jiositlon as presiding judge on the Now York race Hacks and lias entered the real estate department of a morning paper. "I leave the turf with regret," said he in tendering his resignation to the .lockey Club stewards. "iov nearly twenty years I have acted as starter, patrol judge, steward, elerk of the scales and presiding judge. Itacing is a fine sport and if at any time I can be of service to it I shall only be too glad to extend a helping hand. It has been harassed nay. persecuted without mercy, but 1 am certain it will ultimately leeover from the blows dealt it." Mr. Fitzgerald began his official duties on the turf, when in 1804. be was .appointed starter for the St. Asaph track. In 1S07 he was appointed starter on the New York tracks, which post lie held until 1004 when he resigned to accept the position of president and manager of the Brighton Reach track.
