TAMPA EXTENSION NOW DOUBTFUL. Tampa. Fla.. March 1. The slump in patronage was so marked today that tlie belief became general that there would be no extension of the racing here after the termination of the sixty days for which the meeting was originally scheduled. The expense of maintaining the racing is too onerous for the management and there Is little prospect for improved patronage. AVhile no otlicial announcement, has been made, it is only too patent that the proposed extension wpnld entail a heavy loss. In the event of the ending of the raciug hero oa March 11, a return to Pensacola for a three weeks meeting is almost a certainty . The loss .suffered by the layers todav was the biggest of any day this season. They lost on all the races and. coupled with operating expenses, the deficit was of large proportions. Judge Alonck of the Hamilton Jockey Club departed tonight tor Jacksonville. Before leaving he took occasion to contradict published reports that the Hamilton Jockey Club would try out the mutuel style of betting this season. "None of the tracks in the Dominion except Toronto." said he. "will operate with any form of betting other than book-making. If the mutuels prove successful at Toronto, we may plan their adoption for next season, but for the present we will go on with bookmaking." There has been considerable complaint on tho score of vough ridinc and the judges inade. out such clear eases against Pickett and A. Martin that they were suspended for six melus; days. A. F. Dayton will shin his stable to Jacksonville tomorrow. Kinzie Stone was among todays visitors. He is en route to Cuba.
