ANENT THE CALIFORNIA SITUATION. Lexington. Ky.. March 1. W. CIS. Macdonough. the widely-known California breeder of thoroughbreds and proprietor of Onnoudale Stud, writing from his home at Mcnlo Park, Cal., to John S. Uar-bee. proprietor of Glen-Helen Stud here, says: "The racing situation here is not cheering, but the prosiiects are not as bail as painted. There is a bill for a racing commission up now and It may pass. 1 went to Sacramento and spoke, among others, to the Iublle Morals committee and at that time met many of the senators. There is a movement to establish a large number of county fairs some want six and others seventeen days. If the bill for a commission goes through, the establishment of these fairs will be a fine background for the large race tracks and may lead to an amendment permitting pail-mutuol betting. I think there may be an extra session of the Legislature next year audJt is quite losslble that such an amendment might T;o through at that time."
