ARMY SERVICE CUP RACE RENEWED. Baltimore. Mil.. March l. The Maryland United Hunts will again renew the Army Service Cup race instituted in 1008 at Kenning and renewed at Pinilico last snring. The Army Service Cup will be vim at the coming spring meeting at Pinilico under the old conditions. The .Maryland Hunts will have the use of Pinilico truek after the close of the regular spring meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club. The Army Service Cup race was instituted at Kenning by the Washington Jockey Club three years ago principally through the activities of Perry Belmont. Its first winner was Vielle. a daughter of Fatherless and a product of Capt. It. J. Hancocks Kllerslie Stud in Albemarle County. Va. Vielle was ridden bv her owner. Lieut. Berkeley TV Merchant of the Thirtieth Cavalry. Vielle. a Utile bit of a filly, showed Hie superior stamina and itifUitv of the thoroughbred when she wou at Beuuiug, for among her opponents there were Ihree or four half-breds and cold-blooded horses, any one of which would have made three of her. When the Armv Service Cup race was renewed last vear at Pinilico by tlie Maryland Hunts it was won by Lieut. . K. Rockwell of the Engineer Corps on his" thoroughbred Matabou. This race is a mile dash for army horses of all breeds, owners up.
