CARMAN CAMPAIGN TO BEGIN IN KENTUCKY, New York. March 1G. Richard F. Carman has returned from his two-months vacation in California. Mr. Carman is highly pleased with the condition of his horses that wintered at .Belmont Park. The big string of thirty-three, witli the exception of Paradise Queen and Achieve, will be put into active training immediately. Arrangements will be made within a few days toward having both of the mares named mated with desirable sires. Air. Carman is particularly well pleased with Meridians appearance. The son of Ilroonistick has improved in every way since he went , into winter quarters. The Turk moves with a snap and vim. that is gratifying to his owner, who expects this cracking good son of Ileno to be in the top division of the four-year-old class. Bonnie Kelso, which has raced consistently since his two-year-old form, will come to the races a good horse again this year. Horizon, the three-year-old daughter of Hastings Kond Hopes, and Starbottle, another Nursery-broil horse, have taken on llesh. The cloven two-year-olds in the Carman collection are a choice lot. California Queen, Lady Sapphire, Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson and Inspector Les-trade have been nominated for stakes to bo run in the Blue Grass state. Mr- Carman has decided to begin his seasons racing at Lexington April 29. Horses of quality in this barn have been liberally entered in the Kentucky stake events, and with a continuance of good training weather, the Carman horses will lie ready for their engagements. George Archibald has been signed to ride the Carman Horses this season. While in Los Angeles Mr. Carman met Charles L. Harrison, former owner of Meridian. Housemaid, "Waldo and other high-class racers. Mr. Harrison lias a twovear-old sister to Housemaid that he lias named Parlor Maid. Sue Smith, the dam of Meridian, was mated witli August Belmonts Bock Sand last spring. Mr. Carman visited Santa Anita Park just before he left for New York. Several owners are resting their horses at that track. Among the number are Henderson and Hogan, with a stable of sixteen, mostly two-venr-olds. Early Wright is freshening a half ilozeh horses that he campaigned at Oakland. The .Wright lot will be raced in the east this summer.
