JOCKEY MTAGGART IN WINNING FORM. Distinguishes Himself By Piloting the Winners of Three Successive Races at Moncrief Park. Jacksonville, Fla., March 1C. There was a decided drop in the temperature, at Jacksonville this afternoon, but despite the cool weather a large crowd turned out to witness the sport at Moncrief Park. Secretary McLennan furnished an evenly balanced program and most of the races provided keen sport, with driving finishes and small winning margins. The closest finish of the afternoon came with the running of the fifth race. In which Inferno Queen came from behind to score in the final stride by a nose from Sureget. Tom Holland was third, another head away. The finish was so close that the result remained in doubt until the official placing was displayed. Catesby Woodford furnished the winner of the opening race in his Ethelbert eolt. Colonel Hollo-way, which made a runaway affair of the race to win easily by a length from the favorite. Little Dutch. When offered for sale here a couple of weeks ago, it was impossible to get a bid for colonel Holloway. but after his victory today. Albert Simons stepped out and ran up .the Woodford colt 00. Colonel Holloway was protected and bought in. Ber-tis. winner of the second race, was also boosted by Mr. Simons. Entered f6r 00, his owner was "forced to bid ,505 to retain the eolt. Tommy McTaggart had the mount on Colonel Holloway and Bcrtis. and also piloted the winner of the third race. The Moat. Samuel Ross Derby candidate. Dr. Duenner, showed good form in the feature race, a seven furlongs allowance affair, for three-year-olds. Dr. Duenner was ridden by J. Deavenport, made all of his own pace and boat Aldrian a length in a mild drive. Between the races J. W.-Schorrs candidates for the Florida Special, Aylmer and Tom Hayward, worked a mile anil a quarter in 2:12. The first mile was covered In 1:44$. The probable starters in the big race include Donald Maedonald, Countless.. .Boh It., Kings Daughter, Aylmer. Tom Hayward. Ef-fendi. The Nigger, Governor Gray and Milton B. Jockey Pickens arrived from Tampa, this .morning and will remain for the rest .of the meeting. Henrv Freysinghausen, better known as "Little Henrv," and Bill Beverley were among the new layers that cut in this afternoon.
