The decision was reached tonight to discontinue racing here with the running of tomorrows card, it en me as a surprise to the majority of the horsemen, the sudden shutting down In the face of the positive announcement that the racing would go on uninterruptedly until April 1. taking them ifhprepared. The sudden termination of tins meeting was urged by Judge Burke, who gave it as his opinion that to prolong the sport further might risk a scandal. The following statement was issued tonight: "The management of the West Tampa race track has decided to terminate the present race meeting on account of the light entries made by the horsemen and the small public patronage. Many owners prefer going to other -points, to race, and many have already shipped their stables away. Nine extra days of racing have been given and the association feels that it has fully lived up to its obligations to horsemen and public. Arrangements are under consideration for a race meeting at Iensacola, providing a reasonable number of horses are in attendance at that place. Nothing definite will be announced until a canvass of the horsemen has been made. When such canvass lias been made definite announcement of purses and races will lx made to horsemen and t lie public. The present nice meeting ends tomorrow, March 22." , SandivOr was the only successful choice this afternoon and his victory was attended by considerable loss to the layers.
