JAMESTOWN MEETING LOCALLY ENDORSED. Norfolk, Va.. Marcli 21. ,The Norfolk Board of Trade has oUieially endorsed the coming meeting of the Jamestown Jockey Club and the, merchants of this city will do their best to make it a big success. The hotels are getting ready to. take care of the big crowd that will atjend the meeting, and everything will he done to make visitors feel at home. The Betail Merchants Association, one of the strongest local organizations-of citizens. will hold a special meeting Tuesday, at which resolutions of endorsement similar to those already adopted by the Board of Trade and the Hotel .Mens Association will be adopted. . Some of the newest applicants for stabling aceoin- niodations are P. S. P. Randolph, J. Pontius, J. W. Pantrle, R. T. McKeever and Harry Shannon, all of whom are racing at Jacksonville. E. M. Phillips has wired that lie will ship eight horses from Juarez. Some of the others coming from other points are W. C Condran of Philadelphia. Jack Dowdell f rom Gravesend. .1. Owenby, James Frayling, A. F. Dayton and Martin Foley. Six horses, jumpers principally, belonging to Cortland JL Smith of Alexandria. Va.. have arrived in charge ofthe veteran negro trainer. Charles Douglas. - One of Mr. Smiths string is Nebuchadnezzar. Duff Green has written from Fredericksburg, Va.. that, he will ship Essex II. and Nloless here In a few days. Essex II. is a popular fencer with Virginia horsemen and turf patrons. Fred. Miller writes that lie will.be here from Florida soon with Fond Heart, and George Miller, whose work as superintendent last fall contributed materially to the success of the local meeting, is already on the ground directing improvements. Frank Nolan of Albany writes Bob Levy that he will have a string of fourteen here, including Sir John Johnson under the charge of David Woodford. Because a good many people believe the Jamestown track is located at Jamestown. Va., it may be appropriate to say that such is not the case. The track is just live miles distant from the corporato limits of Norfolk, is reached by trolley car In twenty-live minutes from the center of the city, and is more quickly accessible by automobile. . Before next falls meeting opens it is probable that the name of the plant will be changed to. tho Norfolk Jockey Club track. The name-Jamestown waa fastened on the track during the Jamestown Exposition.
