G0SSIP FROM CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville, Ky.. April 14. Horses were exercised today at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park through slush and mud. Henry McDuuicl, in charge of R. L. Thomas stable, worked every horse in his barn at a two-minute gait. Mr. McDaniel thinks highly of Polls chances in the $::.000 Clark Handicap, providing the handicapper is not too exacting. Trainer McDaniels two-year-olds have been doing nicely since they arrived from Juarez. Twenty-One. Lady Hughes. .Mexico, Charley Brown, Lewis ami Yvonne were his winners there. Mr. Bob, the crack brother to Cohort, did not start at Juarez, but will face the starter here for the first time. Eugene EI rod is a victim of the grip. He will go to Lexington April 22 lo place in position the pari-inutuel devices on the Kentucky Association track. Ben Hunkle, who attends to the paraphernalia, will leave here the last of next week. W. H. Shelley, racing secretary at Lexington, has promised that the program book will be distributed next Monday. Frank Mullens will not be raced here owing to the illness of F. T. Wood, his owner. The colt will be shipped lo Canada late in May. Mr. Wood would not trust his horse in any other hands and it will be a month or more before he is convalescent. J. Howard, the Texas jockey, who is under contract to R. L. Thomas, is at San Antonio visiting relatives. He will be here next week lo exercise the Thomas horses. T. Hawes, the Thomas apprentice, is here. A. G. Dunlap of Los Angeles, owner of Ocean Queen and other useful racers, will be here this spring. He has turned out his string and will purchase new material at the Downs to be raced next winter at Juarez. Doiiau, winner of the 1910 Kentucky Derby, is training soundly at the Downs. Trainer Ham thinks he will be a good horse this season. Hanbridge worked impressively through the slush today. The Holie and Gerst youngsters are doing well. Horsemen at Douglas Park are sweet on three I wo-year-ohls in J. W. Kchorrft stable. In his string of twenty-six horses, not one is ailing and every one is exercised daily. - Faleada Is working promisingly for trainer T. Abadie. Archduke, in George Lands string, is also doing nicely-. Horsemen arriving hero from Cincinnati say that Latouia track is undergoing a big change, and that the famous old Kenton County course will be a thing of beauty when the races start in .Tune. Already Secretary McGinn has more applications for stall room than he can readily accommodate.
