SOMETHING OF ABE FRANK. Abe Frank, the leading juvenile sire of the year to date, has rather an interesting history. A son of Hanover and Checsestraw, Abe Frank was bred by Col. Milton Young at McGrathiana Stock Farm. One bad season when Colonel Young needed ready cash George 0. Bennett of Memphis visited his place and bought four or live yearlings, paying good prices for every one of them. Abe Frank, rather small as a yearling, although a well-set-up colt, was not among the Meiuphians purchases, having been turned down. But as Mr. Bemiettawas leaving the place Colonel Young remarked: "George, you have given me a good price for a bunch of yearlings when I needed the money and Im going to show my appreciation of your kindness by tlirowing iu this little Hanover colt. He is small, but he may grow and a man can never tell what a Hanover horse will do." "All right," returned Mr. Bennett, "send him along. Id rather he had a bit more size, but Ill give him a fair chance." The Meinphlair was as. good as his word, and, as everyone knows, Abe Frank became a good winner for him. After Abe Frank finished with racing Mr. Bennett established him at his stud near Memphis, with the Meddler stallion. Intrusive, sire of Ethon. And when the Tennessee Legislature drove Mr. Bennett and other breeders out of Tennessee by passiug an anti-racing law Abe Frank was sold to his present . Texan owner.
