Hayes Saddles Two Winnors Crystal Maid Again in Form. Lexington, Ky., May 2. The Raccland Stakes, for two-year-old colts and geldings, at four and one-half furlongs, carrying a gross value of ,005, was the feature of todays card and was won in commanding style hy Gallaher Bros. Knight of the Thistle colt. Worth, a two-times winner at Jacksonville, and favorite in the betting. J. W. Fryes Joe Knight was withdrawn and Johnson N. Camdens Praetorian, a slashing son df Star Shoot, was added, making a field of seven to go to the post. Praetorian, Buckhorn and Bonanza arc eligible to the rich Breeders Futurity, and this added interest to their first appearance under colors. Both. Buckhorn and Praetorian had shown sparkling trials., the former at Louisville and the latter here, and they were held in higher regard than any of the others, save thb favorite. As the race was run. Worth had the advantage of education and. being iii fifth iKisitiou at the post, was in dryer going than was Buckhorn. Worth broke quickly and was soon guided into a good lead by jockey Goose. John-Robert was in second position coming up the hill, but entering the stretcli was passed by Buckiiom, which had been in a tangle in getting around the first turn. Buckhorn, however, was running in the deepest going and could never get to Worth, and the latter won by two lengths. Five lengths behind Buckhorn came Praetorian, which had been last to leave" the barrier. This colt made up ground steadily until an eighth out, where he appeared to tire a trille. although he came again with a grand rush. He is a Teally good colt and next time out will surely give a better account of himself. Bonanza, the first to break, ran greenly. He is a good colt in need of education. Praetorian was ridden by jockey A. Thomas, whose suspension was today lifted for the benefit of the Camden stable only. T. P. Hayes was much in the limelight today. He saddled two winners, Catula iii the second race and Jabot in the fifth. Jabot was a tired horse at the end of his race. He took the lead when Myrtle Marion, gave up in the stretch, and had just enough left to stall off Sir Dawn at the end. Barney Schrei-bers Captain Carmody was the favorite, but as on Saturday he had no speed. Mr. Schreiber was sorely disappointed and is at a loss to account for the colts poor showing. The most thrilling finish of flic day came in the third race when Crystal Maid nosed out Grover Hughes after an exciting struggle. Enfield, the favorite, could not get near this pair and Incision might as well have remained in the barn for all the figure he cut in the running. For the first time hero the colors of R. F. Carman were in front at the finish when Rogon won the opening race. Ho was best and came from far back. Frank Hogan, senior member of the nondcrson and Ilogan linn, has the distinction of heing the first to make nominations to the four-mile Endurance Stakes. He tendered to Secretary BIdwell of the Racing Commission this morning a cheek for 00 to cover the nomination fee to the race, but did not dcslgnato his entry, as for the present ho has none in his string that can be counted on to go the route of four miles. It is Ills intention to look around and buy some likely horse with which he hopes to capturo the prize. Messenger Boy. In the stable of Eugene Lntz. was excused from starting in the fifth race on account of sickness. The colt developed a sudden high fever and Is considered in a bad way. Captain Garmodys bad showing today with a mediocre lot is taken as disposing of his Kentucky Derby pretensions. Jockey Denny was suspended by the starter for three days for misbehavior at the post. The fractious acting lot that comprised the starters in the opening race caused a long delay at the post. After the finish starter Cassidy put on the schooling list lima, tfool, Kogon, New Star, Olivia Mieklo. and Etta Louise. Ursula Emma arrived this morning from Louisville and is an intended starter in the Elmendorf Stakes to be run on Thursday next. The filly has been showing dazzling speed in her work at Churchill Downs and is considered to have a good chance to win the stakes. Those returning from Pensacola say that horsemen remaining there are in a deplorable state and that over fifty horses have been attached for debts. According to advices received from II. G, Bed-well, who was recently reinstated by the Kentucky State Racing Commission, it is his intention to nominate Nadzu for the four mile Endurance Stakes. The weather was cloudy during the early part of ,the afternoon, but clearing as the day passed. It was so cold that overcoats and wraps were neces-sary to comfort. Yet the attendance was good and speculation was heavier than on either of the previous days. The track was slow, but drying rapidly, as was indicated by the time made in the fifth and sixth races. In the last race Wing Ting ran tins mile and twenty yards two-fifths of a second faster than the mile was run iu the previous race. La Pucelle and Polly Prim, both belonging to J. R. Wainwright, dropped foals at Catesby Woodfords Kaceland Farm last night. La Pucelle has a filly by Ogden and Polly Prim a colt by Orlando. Major Daingeriield. who was absent when the Kentucky State Racing Commission reinstated II. G. Dedwell, has criticized the action taken, but. horsemen generally incline to the opinion that Mr. Dedwell was sufficiently disciplined.
