ZEUS REDUCES PIMLICO TRACK RECORD. Hildreth Star Cuts Full Second from Old Mark for Seven-eighths of a Mile. Baltimore, Md.. May !. The Oriole Handicap, the feature race of Todays program at limlico, furnished a stirring contest and incidentally it enabled Samuel C. Hildreth to show up another of the crack racers he lias in his stable this year. The Adain colt. Zeus, carried the Hildreth colors- in this race and lie came out of the contest with well earned laurels. Zeus ran a race that stamps him as one of the best of his age in training. He was conceding from eight to twenty-one pounds to everything in the race and beat Dr. Dueuuer a neck In a driving finish. With any sort of racing luck Zeus would have won off by himself. He w-as in a pooket to the sixteenth post. In the last 100, yards Zeus finished witli a splendid burst of speed that lauded him in front in the final strides. The seven furlongs was run in 1:20. which was a full second faster than the existing track record for the distance. Mr. Hildreth timed the colt the last quarter in better than 2:!. Keen sport was provided during the afternoon, the finishes in all but two of the races being of the driving order and in three of them small margins separated the first two. Zeus was tho only winning favorite. II. K. Knapp, F. It. Hitchcock and J. E. Widener. whose horses arc being handled by William II. Kar-riek this season, have jointly purchased the contract on jockey Glass from A. G. Blakeley. The consideration is said to have been S4.00O. Four horses that will be trained by James Itowe arrived at limlico tills morning. They include Sweepaway. Stilly Night, a two-year-old maiden and a three-year-old maiden. Mr. Itowe is expected here himself tomorrow. Forrest Rose has retired from racing. He sold his horses to J. S. Flynu yesterday and they will race in tho future in the name and colors of their new owner, who a few years ago was a prominent rider. The transfer included the following useful racers: Cooney K., Montcalm, The Golden Butterfly. Bang and the good three-year-old. Capsize. Mr. Flynu also has Minnie Bright, Almena and Lanigan. This trio wintered in Denver -and arrived here a few days ago in good condition. Jockey J. Bergen will do the riding for the stable. Word, reached here yesterday that Pat Moylett, a well-known- Canadian bookmaker, is in a bad way at his home In Toronto, and that little hope Is entertained of ids recovery.
