HINDOO HORSE FOR BREEDING BUREAU. Montreal, Que., May 4. The thoroughbred stallion Angler has arrived in Montreal. He is the gift of John Freeman or New York to the Canadian National Bureau of Breeding. Of all the horses brought into Canada by the Jiureau Angler is perhaps the handsomest. In color he is a rich brown with dark dapples. In appearance he resembles those thoroughbreds so often seen iu old English prints but not frequently met with nowadays. He is a perfect horse and he conies by his perfection honestly, for Angler Is a son of Hindoo, one of the greatest thoroughbreds that ever graced the American turf. Hindoo was not oulv choicely bred but he had all the qualities which go to make up the erfect thoroughbred and lie could go one mile or four miles on a dry track or in the mud. Anglers dam is Alga,-an Onondaga mare. The bureau has made a great step forward in securing such a horse to improve the common breeds, for Angler is the only son of Hindoo at service in Canada. He is one of the last of the famous line. There are grandsons of Hindoo, as for example the bureau sire. Beau Gallant, but sons of the great horse are scarce. Angler, perhaps, looks more like Hindoo than any thoroughbred sired by that mighty cornerstone of the American turf. He will lie exhibited at the Ottawa Horse Show for the first time in Canada and some of the old timers who saw his sire race will sit up when they see him. The Minister ot Agriculture of Quebec has designated three places where he wishes additional thoroughbred sires to be placed. These are Nicolet. Beauport and Three; Rivers. Angler may be sent to one of these points. More horses are expected tills week and will be sent out as soon as received. Beau Gallant has arrived safely at West Bromo; Arawak has been sent to Shelbourne, Ont. Other horses are going to Buckingham, Que.. Pembroke, Out., Fort William. Que., and Halton County, Out. A horse will also be sent, to Manitowaning, Mani-toulin Island, as soon as navigation opens, and later there will bo some shipments- to Wiunipeg and points west. The bureau stallion, Uoseniount. by Hastings Lady Rosemary, won the thoroughbred prize and the championship at the Renfrew Horse Show last week. He was bred by August Belmont and donated to the bureau by R. F. Carman of New York. In the championship class this thoroughbred boat Clydes, Percherons, Hackney and standard-bred sires. At the Ottawa Horse Show this week the bureau is showing Mastennan, winner at New York 1010; Uoseniount, winner at Montreal; Karl Rogers, winner at Toronto and Valjean, winner at the Central Canadian Fair. made it pleasant for the talent. No Quarter, the topheavy choice or the smart set, proved a disappointment in the feature contest, lieing easily passed by Acumen, the winner, in the final sixteenth. Lady Tendi, heavily backed to win the third race, ran to the outside fence while rounding the turn for home when she looked to be a sure winner. She unseated her rider, who fortunately escaped injury. F. G. Irwin and A. Rick, who were ruled off at Denver Tor refusing to give up the mare. Fore, when she was claimed in a selling race, were reinstated today by the Colorado Interstate Fair Association. Fore is still under the ban.
