REDUCES AMERICAN RECORD PRISCILLIAN RUNS MILE AND SIXTY YARDS INrl:43 OVER PIMLICO COURSE. i Former Track Record for Distance Cut a Full Second Fitz Herbert Again Wins and Is Accorded the Homage Due a Great Horse. Baltimore, Md., May 4. Local race-goers were given tiie opportunity of witnessing that great racer, Fitz Herbert, perform again this afternoon, and the circumstance that he was a prohibitive favorite cut no figure with them. They wanted to see a good horse run and many visited the paddock before the race to see him saddled. Fitz Herbert showed keen speed in his race this afternoon. Jockev Shilling permitted him to race at top speed ror abont an eighth. He then took "him in hand and for the remainder of the trip the horse was fighting for his head. S. C. Ilildretli saddled another good racer when he sent August Belmonts Iriscillian to the post in the-sixth race, a dash of a mile and sixty yards. In ids previous effort here a few days ago Iriscillian ran within one-llfth of a second of the three-quarters mile mark here. Today he took a full second off the track record Tor one mile and sixty yards and was under restraint at the finish. His performance of 1:43 represented a new American record for the distance, superceding the mark of 1:43 made by Demurrer at Benning November 12. 1002. That he is now as good and perhaps for that matter even a better horse than at any time during his career is generally admitted. The attendance was again largo, the fine racing weather and excellent card bringing out the full quota of race-goers. The going was in splendid shape, thanks to the untiring efforts of the track superintendent, and fast time was recorded during the afternoon. In four of the finishes less than a length separated the first two and the margin was only a neck in three of them. Three favorites scored and a majority of the other winners were well backed horses. Frank Taylor was a visitor at Pimlico today, but left tonight for Louisville, where he has shipped his string, which included besides Fanutleroy, the useful racers Adams Express, Harlem Maid and four others. The Maryland Jockey Club lias already announced that application will bo made tor dates for its fall meeting from October 7 to October 24. This means that the meeting wilt open a couple of weeks earlier . than heretofore, and that it wilt be held at a time when the weather conditions will be more seasonable for the sport. Bouncer, winner of the second race, has been schooling through the field here as part of her preparation for todays race. She is a good fencer and her owner may send her abroad next fall to join the stable ot the steeplechasers that he is racing In France. William Garth acted as an associate steward during the running ot the second race, in which Thomas Clydes three-year-olds lilly Aetna was a starter. Fred Cummings. a steeplechase rider a Tew seasons back, arrived from Lake wood, N. J., this morning with four two-year-olds belonging to P. S. P. Randolph. They were Katie IC, a sister to Patsy, Dorothy L.. by Ilermis. Seven Stars by Griffon, and F.tnh, by Banastar Jilt, which mare won a number of races in the Randolph colors. William Oliver has secured second call on jockey Eslep and will manage the lad for George P. Sherman iu future. Mr. Oliver has put Cheek to jumping and he has taken kindly to it. George P.
