SENSATIONAL TRIAL REINSTATES ROUND THE WORLD AS FAVORITE FOR THE KENTUCKY DERBY tit . , T. Louisville, Ky.. May S. Chicago, New York and many cities in the east will send special parties to witness the running of the Kentucky Derby next Saturday at Churchill Downs. Alurray Keller, of Chicago, formerly a resident of Iouisville, has engaged a special car over the Alonon route for the night of Alay 12. Among those who will leave Chicago with Air. Keller are: Colonel Wheeler, Charles Herrmann. II. B. Alunger. Warren Wright. John Lanfesty. Oscar .Mayer, A. AI. Fox and George Gross. John Day. who organized a party of two special cars for the Derby of 1910, lias sent word to Col. AI. J. Winn, of the New Louisville Jockey Club, that more than thirty Derby regulars have made reservations on the day llyer which will leave Chicago Friday night. A chartered car will leave New York Thursday night for Louisville. According to present plans its list of passengers will include August Belmont, chairman of the Jockey Club; James Butler, J. G. Follansbee, Phil J. Dwycr. T. F. Byan, Capt. E. B. Cassatt and other notables. Owing to the half fare rate made all over Kentucky for Derby day, it is expected that the number of visitors from outside points in the state will by far exceed previous records. The leading hotel proprietors say that an unusually large number of persons have engaged rooms for the opening of the racing season. Individuals from as far away as San Francisco. Cuba and British Columbia are due here Friday night. Coloael Winn says that interest in the Derby and the spring race meeting at the Downs is uuparalled in the history of racing in Louisville. He expects a record-breaking crowd on Derby day. The held will be free to the public, and probably will afford a more interesting spectacle than ever before. Colonel Hogan worked the full Derby route Sunday morning at Churchill Downs In 2:12. lie was a tired horse at the end of the mile and one quarter. Bound the World looks unusually well and evidently her race at Lexington, disappointing as it was, did her no harm. Either Tuesday or Wednesday she will be given her linal trial for next Saturdays Derby. Dr. Talbot thinks now that this good racers wind will not be oven affected. It will, however, be midsummer before the horse can he sent to the races. A. L. KIrby came from Lexington. His racers will be shipped from there to the Downs on Tuesday. Air. Kirbys entries were drawn out at Lexington in every instance but one. Heine was drawn out three times. Air. Kirby timed Governor Gray in the geldings trial at Lexington Saturday. He caught him for one mile and an eighth in. 1:50, the mile in 1:41;, and was greatly impressed wHh the performance. . K. Ellison, who won the Kentucky Derby in 1903 with Judge Hinics, is here to remain until the close of the meeting. The locally owned broodmare. Aliss Louise, has foaled a handsome bay filly by Alarta Santa. Johnny Gardner, who rode for Eugene Leigh and raced Gibraltar and other horses of quality is an arrival here. Gardner has ridden abroad as well as In America. At Newport he piloted live winners In one afternoon. Afcttie Bereaud has boon retired to the stud. She holds the five and one-half furlongs record of 1:05 at Churchill Downs, scored in a race in which she defeated Wintergreen. the Derby winner of 1909. Quartermaster, owned by W. G. Yanko. will lie raced toward the close of the spring meeting here. He has been temporarily out of training on account of a quarter crack. C. H. Patton is training well for W. J. Speirs. but Alarkie Af.s legs are under suspicion. Trainer Speirs lias hoixs of lieing able to train this good long-distance racer for the Kentucky Endurance Stakes. The Schorr horses are going along nicely at Douglas Park. Edda is a particular favorite with the work watchers. Trainer Schorr is going after the Debutante Stakes with his fillies Lady Reif and Lady Eastman. The former is sail to be the better of the two. She is a sister to Dr. Gardner and an especially good-looking youngster. Air. Schorr nought Lady Reif from Barney Schreiber, her breeder," at private sale. This morning Round the World showed the most sensational speed of any three-year-old that lias ever trained at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby. She worked the full Derby route of a mile and a quarter, going the first eighth in 12, the quarter in 23. the three-eighths in 35;, the half in 47, live-eighths in 1:00 and three-quarters in 1:13. Then jockey Higgins took her in hand and eased her down so that she went seven-eighths in 1:2S. the mile in 1:42, the mile and one-eighth in 1:50, and pulled her to a complete standstill at the mile and a quarter post in 2:10. The track appeared dull this morning, figuring on the work of the other horses. This characterizes the work of the filly as wonderful. She had not less than 120 pounds up, which is more than her Derby weight, and she came out of the trial in excellent condition. The performance of the Yanke fijly created a sensation among the horsemen and dockers. One of them said: "Its good-by. Governor Gray and Aleridiau. Bound the World is lit and ready." Another gallop will key her up. In her trial the lilly displayed 110 manifestation of sourness, and once more the admirers of this marvelous racer are in high feather. Unless Governor Gray wins the Blue Grass Stakes at Lexington on Wednesday, Bound the World will bo restored to her original position of favorite in the Derby. A carload of horses from Oakland, Cal., arrived today at the Downs. It consisted of the strings of R. Frazier. trained by C. S. Daniels and T. II. Ryan. In the shipment were the useful racers June W. and Fernando. Enfield has lieen returned from Lexington to the Downs. Anigonese is also back in- her old barn as is Col. W. E. Applegates Skillute. The Downs course was rolled today for the first time this season. Superintendent Keegan drenches it with water every evening. He says that unless there is a heavy rain Saturday it will be fast for the Derby.
