GOOD PURSES PROMISED AT LAUREL. Cincinnati. O., July 20. The grading of the ground for II. D. Browns new mile track at Laurel, Md., which takes in the site of an old half-mile track, is now well under way, as is the building of the grandstand and other structures. Two hundred box stalls are already finished and a similar additional number will be constructed before the meeting opens. The grandstand will be 3S5 feet long, and it is the intention of the management to make the track one of the most accommodating in the east. The racing will be- under the auspices of the Maryland Fair Association. The fence is already built around the mile track, and, without the work beins rushed, it is assured that everything will be in readiness for opening day, October 2. The meetiug will continue throughout the entire month of October. Charles Lansdale, one of those who will be financially interested in the navana track, has just returned to this city from an inspection of the work at Laurel. Mr. Lansdale, in speaking of the proposed meeting, said: "It is Mr. Browns intention to give two 00 purses, two of 1911.sh00, one of SS00 and one of ,000 every day of the meeting. Purses of this kind are sure to attract the best horses on the American turf to Laurel. I have had several talks with Mr. Brown regarding the Laurel meeting, and lie is anxious to make it one of the best race meetings ever held in that section." Three weeks after the close of the Laurel meeting will come the opening of the magnificent track at Havana. The ground for the new Cuban race course was broken July 1, and at present is progressing rapidly under the personal supervision of Mr. Brown, and it is assured that the plant will be practically completed by November 1.
