HORSES AT LONG ISLAND TRACKS. New York. July 21. Almost 200 horses arc in training at the various Long Island tracks. At present there are thirty-seven stabled at Gravesend, there having been some depiction recently by shipments to Saratoga. John Hynes. the veteran turfman, has his lot there, old Itye among others. Charles Kohlers horses are also in training over tho Brooklyn track, and Master Robert bids fair to come back a wonderfully good horse. Chickasaw and ITerodia are others in the ICohler string. Con I.eighton is handling the Mr. Earlc string, and the Thomas Monahan horses are also quartered there. Others are the strings of William Keating, J. L. McGinnis. John Mayberry, the Qulncy Stable, Matt Allen. J. II. Valentine and several others. The stables at Shepshead Bay include the horses of Frank Frisbie, James R Kecne, Sam Booker, AVells Clark, Dr. Ashe and Ed Peters. The James R. Keene horses are in charge of Green, a colored trainer, who for several seasons was foreman for James Rowe, when the latter trained the horses of the Castleton Stud. James Rowe Is now at Brook-dale, where he has charge of an immense string belonging to n. P. Whitney. August Belmont has an even dozen in his own barn at Belmont Park, while another string, in charge of John AVhalen. is campaigning over the Canadian circuit. Silas Veltch Is training sixteen jumpers, the property of various owners. Grant Hugh Browne has six that are being trained by Ed Nash. Mr. Browne only recently returned from Europe. C. F. Clark has the Alan Pinkerton horses in his care and there are many others that are fit and ready for the bugle call.
