HORSES GATHERING AT MONTREAL. About 200 Will Be Quartered at Blue Bonnets within a Few Days to Await Fall Meeting. Montreal. Que., August 19. Word was received at the oflice of the Montreal Jockey Club today that several strings would ship here from Hamilton. Trainer John Whaleu has decided to ship the Belmont horses to Blue Bonnets to rest for the fall racing. Water-vale and Flint Rock are both in need of a rest. There will be fourteen horses in the Belmont lot to race at Montreal. Willie Martin has wired to have his stalls bedded down as he will arrive on Monday, leaving Hamilton Sunday night. Ernest Ileider, who has Waterway, is another to come direct here. Abo Garson lias decided to pass up the Windsor meeting and rest at Blue Bonnets for a couple o weeks. With the arrival of the above and those now stabled at the track there will lie close to 200 horses here next week. The track was never in better condition than at the present time, while the steeplechase field is as nearly perfect as possible. The horses now stabled at the course are being given regular work. Lovetle. from the stable of Mrs. L. A. Livingston, which was laid up all summer, lias rounded to and is almost ready for a race. His recent trials have been most gratifying. His most recent work was a mile in 1:45, well in hand. Sotemia and PIcolata are two others in this string that have shown great improvement since coming to Montreal. G. R. Tompkins, who has rested here all summer with his string of jumpers, has them at work. They have been well schooled. Jimmy Lane, The Prophet, Hello and Bigot are all doing well. They have taken on considerable weight and will stand some hard racing this coming fall. John J. Hyland lias also been at Blue Bonnets all summer. His best horse. Apache, went wrong after ids race here in the spring, but is now looked on as being over the ailment. He Is going along nicely and will be ready for the opening of the meeting on September 0. The Canadian-bred horses named for the Kings Plate are doing well. Andrew Shearer, who owns St. Laurent, which will go to the post the first choice, lias written to Capt. P. M. Walker asking him to allow jockey Byrne to ride the horse in the Plate race on the opening da3 The program book for the meeting has been sent out and has met with the approval of horsemen generally. It includes a number of races exclusively for three-year-old steeplechasers, which am bound to fill well. Many improvements have been made to the plant since the spring meetiug and there are now over COO stalls at Blue Bonnets, which will accommodate all the horses racing on this circuit. Applications for stabling accommodations should be .made to the ollice of the club at 11 St. Sacrament street, .Montreal.
