GOOD HORSES FOR WINDSOR OPENING. Detroit. Mich., August 10. Given a fast track, the Detroit. Belle Isle and Windsor Ferry Co.s Handicap field will furnish as interesting a race at a mile as was ever run over the Windsor course. This stake, to be run on the opening day of the AVindsor meeting, August 2S, promises oue of the best mile contests decided on the Canadian circuit this season. The nominations to the handicap, which is one of the oldest fixtures of the Windsor Association, number seventy-one this year, and almost every miler of anv importance in training is eligible. The Belmont ciigibles include Whist, winner of the Hamilton Derby; Flint Rock, winner of the ,000 Dominion Handicap at Fort Erie, and Priscillian. R. F. Carmans chief hope will be Meridian. Kentucky Derby winner and winner of the Frontier Handicap. Mr. Carman has also entered Semprolus, his swift three-year-old, and Starbottle. T. R. Condraii lias nominated The Nigger and John G. -Greener has named Countless. S. C. Ilihlreth will rely on Shannon. Restigouche. Woodcraft. Novelty or Joe Madden. Fitz Herbert is eligible, but the Ethelbert crack scarcely will be in condition for the Windsor stake. M. C. Prichards Spellbound is one of the nominees, as Is also the Quincy Stables Everett. James Howes Lahore is receiving a special preparation for the race, as is also Carlton 5.. which defeated a group of fast sprinters in a Hamilton handicap recently. Other well-known performers eligible for the handicap are Footprint, Mary Davis. Kettle Sue. Doniiu, Hanbridge, Grasmere, Sager, Edda and John Reardon. In addition to the handicap there are six purse races on the opening card at Windsor, including a steeplechase over the two-miles course and a three-year-old race at one mile. The money distribution will amount to ,000, the value of the stake being 51.500. While it was the Illldrotli stable that came here to tlie summer meeting with great prestige, the Wilson stable will have the. call among the leading operators at the autumn meeting. Thomas Healcy. who is handling the string that R. T. Wilson is racing over the Canadian circuit, lias his charges in winning form. The colors of the Saratoga Associations president were frequently in front at Hamilton last week. The Wilson stable will be represented in the opening day stake by Cherish or Nau-slion. The latter won in impressive fashion during the summer meeting at Windsor and is said to have improved greatly since that victory.
