GOOD RACING AT MONTREAL SPORT GOES ON AT BLUE BONNETS UNDER IDEAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONS. Kockville, Purchased at the Sanford Sale, Scores for J. E. Seagram Naushon Again Proves a Disappointment. Montreal, Que., September 11. Joseph E. Sen-grams Rockton colt. Kockville, purchased at the recent sale of the Sauford horses, showed a winning performance at Blue Bonnets this afternoon when he leat a fair lot of horses in the third race, a seven furlongs allowance affair. Jockey Ihil Mus-grave had the mount on Rockville and rode one of the host races seen on the Canadhui circuit this season. It was largely due to his efforts that Rockville gained the verdict over .Martin W. Littleton. The races today were held under perfect weather condition and the track was in splendid shape. Fast time was made in some of the races and several close finishes resulted. In two instances the winners remained in doubt until the otiicial placing was displayed. It was a close thing between Kockville and Martin W. Littleton, while Guy Fisher just did manage to get up in his race to win by a short head. The hitters victory came in the mile handicap, for which the Wilson colt, Naushon. ruled an even money favorite. Naushon has proven an unreliable proposition all season, lie has failed to make good on several occasions when heavily supported by his people. In todays race he showed early "speed, but McCahey look him back and rated him along under slight restraint. The colt might have done better had he permitted him to go right aloug, but that is only problematical. As it was, lie led until the final strides, notwithstanding opposition from Busy in the homestretch, but tiring in the final strides. Guy Fisher came from behind with a rush at the end and finished with splendid courage. The steeplechase, which was for maidens, proved rather an easy" thing for Wicksou. The latters victory was something in the nature of a surprise after J the horses ioor showiug on Saturday, when he ran t,i distant Jast. He was a keen factor at all stages ! of the struggle today and when called on went to the front with a rush and remained there, winning In a canter by a long margin from the favorite. His Reverence. There were several mishaps during the running. Young Morpheus falling heavily at the last jump hut one. The horse was stunned for a time, but was not seriously injured. Jockey Williams escaped with a spraiued ankle. Montgomery beat a fair field of selling platers in the seventh race. Ho easily disposed of the favorite. Question Mark, when his rider let him down. In the early stages he was under a stout pull, but rounding the far turn lie moved up with a rush and galloped into a lead of two lengths. Jockey Byrne was in good form and his followers reaped a harvest. He won the first two races Willi Baby Wolf and Ivabel and the closing dash with Montgomery. Karl Grey, governor-general of Canada, will attend the races in state at Blue Bonnets on Saturday and the occasion will be made a gala one by the society folk of .Montreal, as it will be the last pub-lie function that the earl will attend in Quebec-prior to his departure for England. Grant Hugh Browne was a visitor at Blue Bonnets this afternoon. He donated his Oesarion stallion. King Cobalt, to the National Breeding Bureau recently and is racing a small string on the Canadian circuit. Mrs. L. A. Livingston has decided to reduce her stable and all of the Canadian-bred youngsters racing in her colors will be sold by auction during the SVoodbine meeting at Toronto. The other horses, witli the exception of Ixivetie and .Sotemia, will be Mild during the fall meeting at Iimlico. T. He came from New York and will remain for the meetings at Blue Bonnets and Woodbine. Col. William Hendrie, who lias been acting as one of the stewards at Blue Bonnets, was forced to return to his home at Hamilton on account of illness. His place In the stewards stand was tilled by Tliumas Clyde The Montreal Hunt Club has announced a program of steeplechases to be held at Bois Franc Lodge on Saturday, September 30.
