EXPECT GLORIOUS SPORT AT WOODBINE. Final Meeting on the Canadian Circuit Opens Today with Promising Card. Toronto, Ont.. September 22. The fall meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club, which opens at Wood-Jblnc tomorrow, will mark the close of the regular A-acing season for mil in Canada.. It is the purpose Wf the Ontario Jockey Club to make this meeting one of the most brilliant ever held during the fall season at Woodbine. WltlutJiis ejul in view, liberal purses have lR-en provided The seven races for the opening day will carry an aggregate value of ,800. The Toronto Autumn Cup, to which is added ,500, will bring together a Held of the best handicap horses on the ground, included among which is the Belmont crack, Watervale. This colt hits worked well, and Eddie Dugau will be in th. saddle. The Woodbine Autumn Steeplechase, over the two-miles course, and the Dominion Handicap, the latter being for horses foaled in Canada, are other attractions. The added money in each of these stakes is ,500, while a purse of 00 has been added to the Tercentenary, an overnight handicap for all ages at three-quarters, which will be run as the opening race. The card is an evenly balanced one, which means that the racing should be better than it was last spring, when the Hildreth stable broke up several races. Woodbine never looked prettier than it does at present, and the club has prepared to provide some high class sport. Much attention has been devoted to the course since the close of the spring meeting, and the lieautirul lawns and inlield are at their best. The track, too, is in splendid condition, which means tbat track records will be in danger during the meeting. Thomas Clyde and John W. Schorr, whose horses will participate in the meeting, arrived yesterday morning. Mr. Clyde came from Maryland, and Mr. Schorr from New York. Jockey George Archibald, who was connected with It. F. Carmans stable last summer, will sail for Germany from New York on Monday. Archibald lias an arrangement to ride for Baron Oppcnhcim in that country. It is understood that he purchased bis contract from Mr. Carman. His Excellency. Karl Grey, the governor-general of Canada, and Countess Grey, will be the guests of the directors of the Ontario Jockey Club at a lunch-con at Woodbine on Saturday next. The occasion will be made a brilliant one socially, as it probably will be tin? last public function that His Excellency will attend prior to sailing for England. The horses owned by the Qiiincy Stable, which were shipiH-d to Gravesetid from Fort Erie last" summer, have arrived at Woodbine. Among the lot is the good racer Everett, which looks to be in splendid condition again. Racing .enthusiasts express no regret over yesterdays defeat, of some of the legislators who recently voied against the sport in Parliament. Among the defeated candidates is H. II. .Miller, father of the Miller anti-racing measure, which did not meet with favor. A notable thing alwut the election is that the members favorable to racing have been re-elected by large majorities. The Woodbine track has seldom been better or faster than at present, and more horses were never ready to race on it than now till the Ontario Jockey Clubs stable accommodations.
