REMARKABLE SALE OF ENGLISH YEARLINGS. Wonderfully High Prices Realized for Choice Stock at the Doncaster September Sales. One of the important features of each turf year in England is the sales of yearlings at auction while the Doncaster September meeting is in progress. Other big sales occur, notably several at Newmarket, but the great breeders reserve the choicest products of their studs for the Doncaster sales, confident of high prices for good looking youngsters and assured of a concourse of buyers from foreign lands. In the course of four days of selling this year 29S yearlings were disposed of for the gross sum of 07,915. a grand average of ,905. Such results attest the wonderful vitality of breeding and racing in England, and may well evoke envy in the minds of American breeders and owners. One feature was the unusually small number of youngsters passed through the sales rings without eleciting a bid or without bringing offers up to reserve prices. And nearly all of those so passed were afterwards sold privately. In detail by days the sales were: Number sold. Aggregate. Average. First day ,38 $ 40,515 ,302:50 Second day S3 100,050 2.045.50 Third day 110 220,450 2.0S5.00 Fourth day 07 110,000 1,775.00 Totals 29S 07,015 ,005.00 The highsct price of the four days was paid for a grand appearing colt by Desmond Veneration II.. he falling to C.
