j PIMLICO MEETING OPENS AUSPICIOUSLY. S. C. Hildreth Saddles Two Winners at Prohibitive Odds Full Limit of Thirty-Five Layers in Line. Baltimore. Md.. October 7. The fall meeting of the Marvland Jockey Club opened today before a large crowd. Considering the wintry weather that prevailed, the attendance was remarkable and especially so in view of the opposition at Laurel. Pimlico never looked prettier and the club house contingent was out in force. Siqierintendent Bren-nan had the. track in splendid condition and good time was recorded. Form was well observed, live of the seven races being won by the favorites. S. C. Hildreth saddled two .winners, Priscillian in the first race and Restigouche in the third. The Hildreth horses look to be in splendid condition and their owner evidently did a wise thing in resting them during the past six weeks. Priscillian simply cantered in his race and E. Dugan had him under a strong pull at the finish. This good racer was at no time during todays race fullv extended and he is evidently as good just now as at any time in his career; Restigouche also had an easy task in defeating the lot he was asked to meet in the third race. Like Priscillian. he led all the way and was only cantering at the end. C. II. Shilling had the mount. The best finish of the afternoon came with the running of the second race, a dash of five and a half furlongs, for two-year-olds. Light 0 M Life and Cherry Seed fought it out all through the homestretch and just when the latter loomed the likely winner, he quit and under a vigorous finish by Mc-Taggart, Light O M Life got up to win by a nose. The full limit of layers allowed by the club thirtv-five cut in and speculation was lively. The following is a list of the bookmakers in line: M. Harris, lice Wagner, C. Walters, I. Ham, Eole Pearsall, Max Marks, E. J. Ryan, W. W. Beverley. P. J. McGrath, Bob Kennedy, Jack Shelly, M. C. Lewis. II. Hanir, Geo. Zeller. Roy Offutt. J. Spil-lane. Frank Tyler, J. M. Coburn, George CalTeretta. Clark and Regan, I. L. Howard. Al. Herford, L. Cock-rell. S. Asherinan, George Parrott. II. Shopps, Sam Frank, J. P. Mclnerney, Ed. Colell, P. J. Shannon, E. J. Callahan. Leo Mayer, Al. Hanff, C. B. Walters, and Geo. Howard. Rob Levy came over from Norfolk. Every prominent owner in the east has asked for stable room at the Jamestown track and reservations have been made for the following: S. C. Hildreth, R. T. Wilson, Capt. E. B. Cassatt, James R. Keene, Thomas F. Ryan, August Belmont, Harry Payne Whitney. P. S. P. Randolph, II. G. Bedwell, Bevcrwyck Stable. J. W. May, Frederick Johnson, W. Astor Chandler, R. E. Watkins. David Gideon, James Fitz-simmons. Thos. Lynch. William Garth; Rul Parr, A. B. Gallauer, Capt. P. M. Walker, Paul Fox and John Hynes. William Garth has purchased from S. C. Hildreth the horses Joe Madden and Woodcraft; The former was gelded yesterday and will be shipped to Mr. Garths farm in Virginia. Emerald Isle and Wrap, in the Simons Stable, are down with fever. The latter is in a bad way and probably will die. It. T. McKeever is back from a short visit to France. He found his jumper Sanctus in a bad condition on arrival there and disposed of him for 1911.sh00. De Mund, which went wrong in the spring, is galloping again. Dates for a meeting at Marlboro have been announced for Novemlier 2 to November 11. After many years absence from the turf Jack Mc-Cauley will re-engage in the sport, having arrived here "a few days ago from Kentucky with Electioneer, the Futurity winner of 1900. Old-timers will remember Mr. McCauley as the rider of Eclipse when that horse was about as shifty an animal as sported silk during the days of racing at Guttenberg and Gloucester. He also piloted to victory on many an occasion Nellie BIy. which lias lately again become famous as the dam of Round the World.
