SPOKANE HAS ITS BIGGEST CROWD. Spokane, Wash., October 7. The closing day of the Spokane Fair brought out the largest attendance ever seen at a race meeting in the west. The afternoon was given over "chiefly to automobile races and sports of a like character, and the thoroughbreds liad only two chances to display their prowess. The first race, a five-furlong sprint, was won by Elcctro-wan in a hard drive, with Placidc and Waner. The second purse went to Cantem, which led all the way and won in easy fashion from Gramcrcy and Good Intent. A fire early this morning destroyed a large number of the stables at the Fair grounds and Knight of Ivnnhoe was burned to death. Smiley Metzner had a narrow escape and was so badly burned that it will be a long time ere he faces the barrier again. A. large number of horsemen lost all their stable equipment., Racing will be resumed at Alan Monday and continue for three weeks, which will end the season hereabouts.
