ANOTHER BIG CROWD AT LAUREL. Martin W. Littleton Beats Sir John Johnson in Chief Race at New Course. Laurel, Md., October 10. As the meeting at Laurel advances, the crowds continue to grow larger and today, even though the card was the lightest of the meeting and the weather cloudy and threatening, the attendance was by far the best of the meeting, with the exception of Monday, when ladies were admitted free. Although the card was numerically light, the fields in each race were well balanced, and It was no surprise to see many close finishes during the afternoon. In the first and secoixl races two horses reached the finish so close that it was impossible to tell which had won until the official placing had been made. The only drawback was rather poor starting. A handicap for all ages at six furlongs was the chief feature, and it was an interesting struggle all the way. In the run through the stretch Martin W. Littleton closed so fast that ho was able to take the lead iu the last sixteenth of the race and beat, the favorite. Sir John Johnson, in a drive by three parts of a length. The three-quarters was run in the fastest time of the meeting. The steeplechase did not prove to be much of a contest, although It was a better race than the one of a few days ago and at the end Rosshamptou won pulled up. Dlebold and Magellan fell during the running, while Charivari refused. The horses of II. G. Bedwell have arrived here and that owner did not lose any time in making en tries, as he has a liumber of his horses carded for to morrow. Jockey B. Steele was among the new arrivals at the track. W. P. Austin and trainer James Blute have parted company and there is a good chance that Frank Regan will be given the horses to train. Jockey Obert was suspended for two days on Monday, but he was allowed to ride for his employer today. Mote owners are shifting from the Pimlico track 1o this course, including Ernest Hall and the Ramapo Stock Farm Stable. This afternoon a number of men were arrested near the track for what was said to be a case ot wire tapping, and they were held for trial before a local magistrate.
