OLD COLIGNY IN WINNING FORM. Veteran Steeplechaser Wins Race Through Field at Pimlieo Double for Wilson Stable. Baltimore. Md.. October 11. The racing at Pimlieo this afternoon attracted a large gathering to that famous old course. An evenly balanced card was provided by the Maryland Jockey Club and keen sport resulted. The colors of Richard T. AVilson were conspicuous during the afternoon. They were carried to victory in the opening dash by Caliph and in the fifth by Altamaha. Five of the six races were won b3 favorites. Showers fell last night, but the track was in excellent condition and fast time was recorded. Old Coligny showed a splendid performance in the Mount AVasbington Steeplechase, which he won with ease after making all of his own pace. Firestone, making his maiden effort through the field in this race, fenced well until the ninth jump, where he made a bad landing and fell. The closest finish of the afternoon came with the running of the second race in which Maromara beat Supervisor a nose. The latter was probably best, but Alex finished stronger than Rowley. Superstition, a popular racer with Bnltinioreans. scored in the closing dash, in which he beat Busy a length. For the remainder of the meeting at Pimlieo the racing will begin at 2:30 instead of 2:15 and the steeplechases will be run as the fifth instead of tin; fourth race, as has been the rple for many years. J. E. and George B. AVidener were visitors at Pimlieo this afternoon. They came over from Philadel phia to see their old jumper, Coligny, run in the steeplechase, which he won. The president of the Maryland Jockey Club, AAilliam M. Manly, had a starter in this event in L. Navarre. The latter was running well when he fell. The promising jumper, St. Aloysius, owned by J. E. Davis, was badly cut down in his last race and had to be destroyed. Shadwell, a starter in the maiden race, owned by J E. Love of Canada, was cut down, his back tendon being severed and his leg broken. He was destroyed. Spanish Prince pulled up lame after his effort in the second race, and probably will not race again. Superstitions race today was a public trial, for the Pimlieo Selling Stakes, one mile and three-quarters, to be run next AVednesday. AVilliam Garth served as acting steward during the running of the fifth race, in which Thomas Clyde, one of the stewards, had an entry. A. G.
