MERRY LAI, close up from the start, wore SANDRIAN down and took the lead after going a half mile, but had to be hard ridden near the end to hold his advantage. SANDRIAN. much the best or the others, ran in closest pursuit and was gaining in a resolute finish through the last sixteenth. MISS KORN went fairly well. AAIATOR had no mishaps. The latter closed a big gap in the stretch and was going best at the end. BOUNCER set the pace to the stretch and held on fairly well in the final drive. EMILY LEE stumbled frequently. LADY LIGHTNING showed the most early speed and, setting a fast pace, held on resolutely to the finish. PATRUCHE moved up gamely in the stretch after losing ground by going wide and outstayed THE REACH in the final stride. TnE REACH was prominent for the first hnlf, but tired. NICIAS ran well. IQliit was tiring at the end and barely lasted long enough to save second place. TOM BIGBEE ran well and was going fast at the end. JIM GAFFNEY quit iu the stretch after showing the most early speed.
