ABSURDS MIDDLE PARK PLATE. At .Newmarket, England, last Friday, the Middle Park Plate for two-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile, "was won by J. It. Joels liay colt Absurd, by Sundriilgc Absurdity, 122 pounds. H. 15. Puryeas chestnut colt Sweeper II.. by Broomstick Ravallo II 125 pounds, was second and J. B. Joels brown colt White Star, by Sundridge Doris, 121 lwuuds, finished third. The decision of the Middle Park Ilate is usually considered in England to have a direct bearing on the Epsom Derby of the following vear a theorv not always borne out by results. V.ist vear this race fell to II. I. Whitneys afterwards unfortunate two-year-old Borrow. In toint of prestige it is quite the most important English race for two-vear-ohls, but not the most valuable, usually netting "the winner not far from :5.000.
