PIMLICO RACING IS SPIRITED, Layers at Baltimore Track Get Favorable Break After Long- Succession of Losses, Baltimore, Md., October 1C. Keen sport was furnished at Pimlico this afternoon. The finishes in a majority of the races were close enough to be interesting and in two of them short heads separated the first two horses. The attendance was good, despite the counter attraction of a big parade in the city, which doubtless kept many. away. The bookmakers had their first favorable break since the meeting opened, when outsiders won the first two races. Favorites scored in four other instances, but three of them were at short prices anil the layers suttered little. The Glenmore Steeplechase and the Juvenile Purse were the attractions. Algie picked up 104 pounds in the former and won easily, although only half a length separated him from Gun Cotton at the finish. Henderson drew it fine on Algie, easing him throughout the last sixteenth. Mrs. L. A- Livingstons promising filly Chryseis proved best in the Juvenile Handicap, coming from behind and winning easily from New River. Cherry Seed, the favorite, grabbed himself directly after the break, and Shilling was forced to pull up to l;etp from going down. The accident put Cherry Seed out of the running. McLeod F.s victory in the opening event was a surprise, as was also Spins in the third race. The former was backed by his stable connections, while there was practically no support, whatever for Sain. No place mutuels were sold on McLeod F. and the pool was split among those who held Sunlight tick-ets. In Spins race there were no straight tickets sold and the pool went to the backers of Annie Sellers, who finished second. Schuttinger, who has been riding In greatly improved form here, scored two more victories this afternoon, his finish on Spin being the best he has shown during the meeting. Yorkshire Boy came out of the scramble which occurred on the first turn in the Walden Stakes on Saturday, with several cuts on his hocks. Flying Yankee, which fell in the same race. Is exceedingly sore, but trainer Henley has hopes of getting him to the post before the meeting ends. The Holstein filly Ganogue, owned by D. Lome Mc-Gibben of Montreal, died this morning. She was taken sick on her trip from Toronto to Pimlico and had been suffering from fever. Entries for the stakes to bo run during the Jamestown meeting will close Wednesday. Bob Levy- was at Pimlico tills afternoon and the owners of alj the ,big stables have reserved stabling. James Rowes three-year-old, filly Swoepawny arrived from Brookdale this morning and was turned over to Albert Simons. Joe Kenyon, Dr. Duenner aud. Gay Deceiver arrived from Laurel.
