V. n r i j, t ii J , : . . , a , , , , , , , i , PLANS FOR CUBAN RACING CHANGED. Havana Winter Meeting Will Open at Remodelled Almendares Track December 15. Laurel, Md., October 10. The largest crowd of the meeting, saw the running of the six thoroughbred races and three for the trotters at Laurel this afternoon. There must have been close to 10,000 persons present. Governor Crothers was expected at the track today, but although a telegram was received at noon that he would surely be on hand, he failed to put in an appearance. The grand stand had been decorated in his honor, while the box opposite the judges stand had been reserved for his party. After deferring the parade unfil after the second race. Manager Brown decided that they could not wait longer and the parade was given. It was truly a magnificent spectacle. The track had dried out and spirited racing resnlted. All doubt as to whether or not there would be any racing in Cuba the coming -winter was set aside today by Manager Brown, who stated that the meeting at Havana would positively open on December 15. It will be held at the old Almendares track, which will be remodelled for the coming meeting, as Mr. Brown has decided that he has not the necessary time to complete the new track. No nurse of less than 00 will be given, while there will be many valuable stakes. Mr. Brown also cheered the horsemen bv announcing that for the rest of the Laurel uieetiug 00 will be the minimum purse. Jockeys C. Grand, C. Peak and Whatley were each suspended for one day by starter Murray.
