NORFOLK STAKES FILL EXCELLENTLY. Norfolk, Aa., October 19. The stakes for the fall meeting of the Jamsetowu Jockey Club have closed and the entries made for them will compare favorably in quality with .those for o.ther important meetings of 1911. Five stakes are to be decided, ranging in vnlue from to ,000. that have attracted the best of the horses in training. Besides there will be numerous overnight handicaps that will provide good contests. The overnight purses have been increased in value as compared with past meetings. , . Fred Ar. Gerhardy, clerk of the course and racing secretary, has been asked to provide stabling for the majority of the stables racing at Pimlico and Laurel, so the accommodation at Norfolk will be taxed to the limit. The plant has been overhauled Avithin the past two or three weeks and now presents a new appearance. The stables have been improved so that they will be second to none, while the stand and betting ring have also been overhauled. The race track of the Jamestown Jockey Club is well situated and is within twenty minutes ride of the center of Norfolk. Gerhardy stated this morning that he would have to turn down at least 100 of these. The ring-will be open to all reputable bookmakers desiring to draw iu. It will accommodate at least fifty layers. The officials engaged for the meeting aro all well known and have served , many years ia their respective positions. A. B. Dade will do the starting. Special trains will be run from tho Laurel track at the close of the meeting to transport the lorse I to Norfolkr
