LAUREL MEETING AT AN END BREAKING OF TRACK RECORDS MARKS CLOSING DAY AT MARYLAND COURSE. Plate Glass Wins Annapolis Handicap in Stirring Drive with Martin V7. Littleton Marlboro Meeting to Open Today. Laurel, Md., October 31. As an extra attraction for the closing day of the Maryland State Fair As-sociatnons meeting, a novelty race was given at Laurel this afternoon. Six automobiles competed in a ten-mile race. The racing program Itself was a brilliant one. Besides the Annapolis Handicap at six furlongs, to which was added ,000, there was given a 1911.sh00 handicap for all ages at one mile and a sixteenth. Large fields were named in most of the races and stirring contests resulted. The racing conditions could not well have been improved upon, the weather being delightful, while the track was at Its best. P. S. P. Randolph furnished the winner of the Annapolis nandlcap in Plate Glass., which ran, coupled with Besom. The latter set a terrific pace to the stretch turn, where Plate Glass dashed to the front and. in a fierce drive, managed to beat Martin W. Littleton a head. Hilarious was third another head away. He ran a splendid race considering that he kept bearing to the outside all through the homestretch. Agnler was withdrawn from the sixth race just at post time and to eliminate delay betting on the race was allowed to stand, but all money wagered on Agnicr was refunded. The last race was in darkness and It was impossible to distinguish the colors of the contestants. Fifteen carloads of horses, making up a special which contained the pick of the stables racing here, left for Norfolk at the conclusion of todays races. II. G. Bedwell. R. E. Watkins, William Garth. C. C. Smithson, W. T. Anderson, J. W. Burttschell, J. R. Keene. E. T. Cooney and Albert Simons were among the ones represented. Efficiency, winner of the first race, was boosted from 1911.sh00 to ,000 by G. Miller, but the filly waa protected and bought In by her owner. Algernon Daiugerfield. acting for James R. Keene. has sold the two-year-olds Cloak and Promised Land to Sam Louis for ,000. The scene of racing in Maryland will shift tomorrow to Marlboro, where a ten-days meeting will begin under the auspices of the Southern Maryland Racing Association.
