j j WILLONYX NOW A FAMOUS HORSE. When the turdy and staying horse, Willonyx, won the Cesarewiteh Handicap at Newmarket October 11, he made a new record in that he was under the greatest weight ever carried to victory by a winner of that race. He carried the crushing impost of 131 pounds. The nearest to this grand feat of weight carrying over such a long and trying course was Sheens Cesarewiteh triumph in 1S0O under 12S pounds. Willonyx also made another record for himself as the only winner in succession of the Chester Cup, Ascot Stakes, Ascot Gold Cup and Cesarewiteh Handicap. He is now the most talked about and most praised horse In England and, hearing that continental breeders are already seeking to buy him, an English syndicate is being hastily organized to proffer Mr. Howard 50,000 for the horse for the sake of retaining him for service in England exclusively. In the meantime Mr. Howard has not said whether the horse is for sale at any prlce. Willonyx is a brown colt, fours years old, by William the Third Tribonyx. He had only one outing in his first season, when he was beaten in the Rendlesham Stakes at Kempton Park. Last year he led off by taking a Maiden Plate at Kempton Spring, was beaten in. a minor race at Windsor and then won the Ardenrun Plate at Lingfield and High-weight Stakes at Ascot. Nine subsequent races, provided two successes, one in the Knowsley Dinner Stakes at Liverpool July, and the other in the Free Handicap at Newmarket. He has only once been beaten this year, viz., when he failed to concede thirteen pounds to King Midas in a Biennial at the Newmarket First Spring meeting. As to the manner of the running of the Cesarewiteh, London Sportsman says: "The white Hag was not hoisted until five minutes after time, and then it took Mr. Willoughby nearly a quarter of an hour to get them away. Tho start would have been a very good one bad not Yellow Slave whipped half round, and Ignition, which went away at sprinting pace, speedily took a ten-lengths lead of everything. Wolf to! headed the others, closely attended by Himan, Clannish and Bryony, Willonyx. Papavcro, Mirador, Treplda and Martingale II. being the most prominent of the others.
