GETAWAY DAY IN KENTUCKY SUNNING OF TODAYS LATONIA CARD WILL BEING CIRCUIT TO A CLOSE. Much Interest Manifested in Latonia Endurance Stakes, Which Promises Great Contest La-tenia Meeting Fairly Successful. Cincinnati, 0., November 10. Mild weather and n good curd contributed to attract a big attendance iliis afternoon at Latonla. The crowd witnessed Hue sport and as most of the favorites wore returned dinners, they combined profit with pleasure. Meridian took the feature race, a handicap at three-quarters. In which he was conceding big weight to good opposition, Grover Hughes, running the best race of his career, managed to laud second piaee, with Follie Levy third. The success of the backers of favorites began in the opening race, when Nan Ferguson, under T. Koerners energetic handling, managed to get up to beat Maynora. Brig, continuing in her good form, accounted for the second race after a hard effort to outstay Colonel Hollo-way. The latter was lest. bat loss of ground on the first turn, where he was forced wide, proved his undoing. A plunge on J. F. Crowley In the third race was responsible for liberal odds about Jeanne dArc und others. Jeanne dAre vou handily with the good thing u distant trailer. Mockler ran in his best form and came away to an easy victory In the liftli over Haldeman and Sam Barber, with Tay Pay far back. The latter probably lias had too much severe campaigning latelv. The closing race went to Console, for which there was abundant support. Start Cassfdy suspended jockey C. Turner for disobedience at the post and that rider will not be allowed to till his engagements tomorrow. Considerable interest Is being manifested in the outcome of the I.atonia Endurance Stakes to be run tomorrow. A splendid field is carded to start and with good weather. a record-breaking attendance . is expected to "witness the result. Governor Gray enjoys favoritism with the horsemen. Some shrewd ."st-.nen Incline to the idea that the race will be Lln-iftWn the three-year-olds entered and that the outcome will probably be a repetition of Ihe I.atonia Derby, with Governor XJray leading. Star Charter second and Messenger Boy third. The latter has been given a careful preparation for the race and is jii better fettle than for the Kentucky Endurance Stakes, in which he triumphed. A victory tomorrow would stamp him as one of the best long-distance racers in the country. Jockey E. Dugan has been prevailed on to remain over and will have the mount on Governor Gray. .1. B. Campbell has been engaged by F. J. Pons to look after the stake entries for the Charleston track and will leave next Sunday for Norfolk and Marlboro to do some missionary work among the j horsemen in the interest of the Charleston Association. Charles Nolte, who for the past few seasons Iras ; I been assistant superintendent at the Douglas Park track, has been offered the position of truck superintendent at the Charleston track. Eugene EIrod has completed all arrangements In connection with the special train for Juarez and the big consignment will pull out from Laloaiia Monday afternoon. If the running schedule is adhered to, passengers and horses will be lauded at El Paso 1 Thursday forenoon. Henry MeDaniel will add twelve yearlings to his consignment for Juarez. The youngsters will be picked up at Louisville and put" aboard the Juarez . special. The Gcrst-IIolle consignment for Havana will number eight, including Douau. G. M. Johnson will tend fivo horses to Havana, including Raleigh P. I. T. C. McDowell will send his horses from here o Lexington and afterwards they wil he shipped Xo Havana. The Manager will go with tho lot. According to authoritative information, the Lutein . association probably will book a small profit a this meeting. The unpropitious weather that has prevailed during most of the meeting is responsible c slim gate receipts. The lnitting. however, held V wall, a sure indication that the Cincinnatians are beginning to take kindly to the mutuels. Tho auc-t ion pool betting lias not been missed to any extent and tliis mode of wagering has probably ceased in Kentucky for all time. The long-priced winning 1 Jiiibiuatious has made this style of betting popular with the smaller bettors. Todays three-horso combination brought successful backers 02. CO for . Starter Cassldy leaves tomorrow for New York, where he will spend a week before going to Juarez. C. A. Tllles, who is the chief stockholder in the track and who has been here several days, will return to St. Louis tomorrow. Mr. Tilies is well aiisfied with conditions here and with tho efficient management of the track by John Hachmeistcr. The latter will, at the close of the racing, remain to wind up affairs and later will go south for a much needed rest before planning for next season. The following horses belonging to T. W.
