TURF GOVERNORS IN A DELEMMA. New York, November 10. "The racing interests are in a bad tlx," said a steward of the Jockey Club t. Belmont Park Terminal on election day. "They dr not know what policy to pursue. If we try to show good cause why we should have relief our enemies will not" listen to us. In my opinion th" Legislature could have passed both of Senator Git-itus bills last spring without exciting even a mild protest and racing could have been revived on a K.nall scale. We know there is open betting on other branches of sport without the slightest 011-lwsition from tho element that has put racing out "t business, but we do not care to instigate action 1- antagonizing other sport promoters. I believe that if facing could lie made an issue with the vot rn of Greater New York it would be made clear theres a popular demand for the sport, but riat uat is something over which we have 110 control. I 1st at present "the racing interests are marking time, waiting for favorable developments, but we have no idea when, we will be in a position to make a move calculated to relieve thu embarrassment of the turf in this state." H. A. Buck announced yesterday that for the first time on record the United Ilunts Racing Associations fall meeting of two days had been run without less. In fact, the books showed a. small profit. The meeting of the Meadow Brook Steeplechase Association on election day resulted In enough patronage to cover expenses. It has been suggested that thu number of amateur race meetings in this vicinity should be materially increased next year.
