GOOD RESULTS IN ENGLAND JAMES R. KEENES RACING STABLE SELLS AT PROFITABLE FIGURE. Runnymedo Brings 18,375 at Newmarket and Cataract Also Commands Good Price Sale Brings English Venture to Successful End. An Associated Press dispatch brings intelligeneo that the small band of horses James R. Keene race! in England this year, sold at auction at Newmarket Monday for an aggregate of 5,230. Add to this the total of 0,150 won by them in racing this year and It can lie seen that sending them abroad for racing and sale has proved a decidedly successful venture. The horses sent to England by Mr. Keene and trained by Joseph Butters, were the throe-year-old colt Runiiyniede, two-year-old colts Cataract, Out-ram, Blarney Stone, franconi, Simulium and Ilave-lock, and two-year-old tillies Junina, Matushka aiid Ilippocrene. Of these llippocrene was the only one that was not started and of the colts Havelock was the only one that did not win a race. The fillies Junina and Matushka were each raced a few times, but did not win. As might have been expected, Runnymedo and Cataract were the stars of the sale, the former bringing the top price of 8,375 and, as prices go in England, probably being worth more money. Runnynicde made his debut in English racing in the Two Thousand Guineas and finished fifth to Sunstar, Stedfast, Lycaon and St. Anion showing great speed in the race and evoking favorable comment. His next two races were successes. At Gat-wick, May 0, he won the Marlborough Stakes at a mile from Amazed. Luxcmliourg and two more, wlh-ning by three lengths and being favorite at 2J to 1 on. At Ascot June 15 he defeated Prince San, Melody. Black Potts, Persisni and Karagouzel in the Forty-ninth New Biennial Stakes at live furlongs. Prince San was the favorite at 0 to 4, while it was 2 to 1 against Melody and 4 to 1 Runnymede. This was his most valuable victory, first money amounting to ,023. From that time on he was held to bo in the front rank of the best sprinters in England. His other victories were in the Exning Handicap at the Newmarket Second October meeting at five furlongs against ten speedy opponents; the Temple Handicap at the Sandown October meeting, again at five furlongs and with thirteen competitors and the Stewards Plate, three-quarters of a mile, at the Liverpool Autumn meeting in which he carried 123 pounds and won from Lavolt, OS pounds and Grammont, 115 pounds, eleven others running unplaced. He is gifted with that turn of extreme speed necessary to the winning of a Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, Portland Plate at Doncaster, or the Stewards Cup at Goodwood and, if all goes well with him, should prove a profitable servant to his new owner. Cataract is Runnymedes half-brother, being by Ben Brush Running Stream, while Runnymedo is by Voter from the same mare. His first start was in the Wallington Plate at Epsom May 30. Lord Roseborys good colt Wrack winning. Cataract was "green" and ran fourth. His next start was in the valuable Fifty-fourth Ascot Biennial Stakes at Ascot June 13. This he won by a length and a half with Astra second. Apprentice third and ten other starters unplaced. This was the richest race won in England by an American horse this year, the winners portion being ,135. This was his only victory, but at Sandown Park. July 13, he won for himself the credit of being one of the ten best two-year-old colts of the year when, carrying the crusher of 131 jiounds. he finished third to the Spearmiut Adula filly, 110 pounds and Jingling Geordle, 119 pounds in Englands most valuable race for two-year-olds, the National Breeders Produce Stakes. Nineteen started. Hall Cross, thought by some critics to be about the best two-year-old colt in England, carried the same weight as Cataract and was far back at the finish. Yet to show how. good Cataracts form in that race was. Hall Cross a few days later won the rich Great Lancashire Breeders Produce Stakes at Liverpool in a cantor from Bullfinch and King Oswald. Cataract is in the Two Thousand, Derby and St. Leger of next year and is a high-class two-year-old. Of the other Keene two-year-olds Celts half-brother. Blarney Stone, was highly esteemed, but was something of a disappointment in racing. However, ho won the Elvaston Nursery Handicap at Derby and tho Thursday Nursery Handicap at Newmarket, besides being placed in four other races and, being a slashing big eolt of the kind likely to improve, may turn out to be a high-class three-year-old. The Delhi Gingham colt, Outram. won the Rous Plato at Doncaster from tho highly-esteemed St. Neots, Buckshank and Jessica and the New Nursery Handicap at the Newmarket Houghton meeting in which ho defeated Mr. Whitneys Hamburg Martha II. colt. Witling. King Georges colt Mirabeau, and sis others, all but one of whicli were good winners. Franconi won the nopeful Stakes at the Doncaster May meeting and Simulium tho Gaunt Plate at tho Manchester June meeting. Havelock failed to win, but ran second to Maiden Erlegh in tho Findou Stakes at Goodwood and third in the Bradgato Park Nursery Handicap at tho Doncaster September meeting. Cathay winning and Milliner running second. Havelock was giving six pounds to the winner and fifteen pounds to tho second horse.
