MEADOW BEATS FOLLIE LEVY AT JUAREZ. El Paso, Tex. December 5. Meadow, lightly weighted, won the six-furlongs handicap by a narrow margin from Follie Levy before a large assemblage at Juarez this afternoon. Favored bv a Hying start, which enabled her to get away to good advantage and thus keep In fairiv close attendance on the leaders, she made her usual famous stretch effort and, hooking up with Follie Levy a sixteenth from the finish, outlasted the latter. Her performance was all the more meritorious, as Groth, who rode, is anything but a powerful linisher. Flying Wolf, which set the pace, easily disposed of Round the World for third monev. It was ladles day aud members of tho fair sex were out In force and took a keen interest in the racing. Three more bookmakers dropped out of the ring, reducing the number of layers to four. The absentees were i. .Shannon, C. T. Browntield and Shelby Oliver. They will probably cut in again on Thursday. Marsund was claimed out of the third race for 52i by J. II. Adams, but the claim was faultv and was disallowed. Thistle Belle, winner of the same race, was bid up from 00 to 1911.sh05 by It. J. Farris, but was bid In by C. P. Lamar. E. G. Souie, a prominent western horse owner and Dock-maker, arrived here today for tho winter. II. II. Selby has six horses here, but Startler is the only one now ready to race, as the other live members of the string are yearlings. Two of these youngsters are by Stalwart, one is by Sain, and another by Ornament. Mr. Selby thinks highly of his yearlings and will cut into the two-year-old racing here soon after January 1. It. C. Benson, of Kansas City, is here with a string that includes Odelia, Lees Friar, Flying dOr and Allaufearn.
