NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey T. Rice will ride at Juarez under the management of J. C. Ferriss. Captain Duhaine of the Pinkerton service will be in charge of the policing of the Charleston track. Carter, an apprentice rider, is showing promising form at Juarez and his services are greatly in demand. Harry La Montagnes Sultan ran third in the race for the Prix Le Soune at Suint Ouen, in France, Friday. John Lowe is no longer connected with the racing stable of J. H. Meado at Juarez as trainer. Mr. Moade is doing his own training. John S. McDonald, a well-known American racing man, is quoted in London as of the opinion that James R. Kcene may continue to breed and race thoroughbreds in England. Chevalier Ginistrelll has sold his mare, Signorin-etta, by Chalereux Signorina, the famous Epsom Derby and Oaks winner of 190S, to Lord Rosebery upon private terms, for his stud. The four sellers of "tips" on the races who were recently arrested at Columbia, S. C were convicted of vagrancy and sentenced to pay lines of 5 each or serve thirty days in the chain gang. John Marshall, who will serve as president of the Charleston Fair and Racing Association, is a great-grandson of former Chief Justice Marshall of the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Marshall was formerly a journalist and is now a broker. Louis H. Ezell, who trained for Sam Lazarus during the period preceding that wealthy Texas breeders retirement from racing last winter, is reported hopelessly ill with Brlghts disease at his home in Abilene, Tex. He has two horses racing at Juarez in charge of his brother, Burt Ezell. Lee Smitha of Lexington, Ky., recently filed suit at Columbia. S. C, for recovery of the horses Sabo Blend and Mollie Gibson from C. S. Orrison, in whose namo they had been running under an arrangement by which he received a percentage of their winnings. On Saturday, Sabo Blend ran in Mr. Smithas name. The Watchung nunt Club, which conducts amateur race meetings at PlainQeld, N. J., has elected officers as follows: President, Henry L. Finch; vice-president, H. E. Butler; secretary, F. W. Thompson; treasurer, R. n. Towner; stewards, M.. F. Rufus, C. Finch, E. F. Hooley. II. S. Hollis, T. R. Vanber kerck, C. W. Holland, J. J. ODonohue, W. Palmer Smith, Jr., and H. B. Cooinbe.
