FRENCH SUPREMACY IN STEEPLECHASING. "We welcomed the triumph of the British thoroughbred at last weeks sales at Newmarket, wo beamed with satisfaction at the fact that foreign breeders had still to come to us," writes The Scout in The London Daily Express. "But it is the reverse side of the picture when one ef our most prominent and ambitious of cross-country -owners sought to recruit his stable last week by buying a ready-made expert French chaser. The horse in question is Trudon, the winner of six steeplechases under big burdens in France this season, whose owner, however, declined the offer of 4i2,000 made by the English sportsman, preferring to enter Trudon himself for the Grand National. This may only be an Isolated instance, but it shows Frances strength at jumping, the strength of a country where jumping is an all-the-year-rouud business."
