NOTES OF THE TURF. State Senator Thomas F. Grady, a staunch friend of racing, is seriously ill of diabetes at Ids home, 151 East Thirtieth street, New York city. He has leen in bed practically for fourteen weeks. The senator says he does not know if he will bo well enough to 1e in his seat at Albany this winter, but that he certainly will make every effort to be on hand. Jockey J. Howard, who has just been ruled off at Juarez on the ground of fraud, is twenty-live years of age and makes his home at San Antonio, Tex. He first began riding eight years ago. his first employer being trainer Clayton Morris. He rode in the east several years ago for Sam Lazarus and in Canada for J. AV. Fuller. Ho has been riding at Juarez this winter for E. Gaylord, whose horses are now trained by Henry McDaniel.
