MAN WITH HALTER ACTIVE SELLING RACE BIDDING BREAKS OUT AT THE JUAREZ TRACK. E. J. Barnes Starts Ball Rolling and F. W. Foisting Follows His Example — Rule Relating to Friendly Claims to Be Enforced. El Paso, Tex.. January 10. — The racing at Juarez this afternoon, although furnished by selling platers, provided excellent sport. Favorites were successful In the first three races, but the remaining parses went to outsiders. The man with the halter has at last made his appearance. It was E. J. Barnes, owner of Round and Bound, who started the selling race activities. When Balronia won the fourth race. he bid her up from $.500 to ,090 and secured her at that figure. Mr. Barnes is likely to go further, for he let It be known that whenever lie sees a horse that he fancies entered cheaply, he will not hesitate to go the limit. F. W. totaling afterwards took up the bidding and ran up Frank G. Hogaa 00 over bis entered price. John Lowe, who recently acquired the base from W. E. Suggs, retained him with the custom,: r.v advance. Jix-key Taplin was suspended for five days by the stewards for cutting across his company with Ocean Queen in the closing race. There has been much friendly claiming of late. Yesterday G. M. Odom claimed Bredwell from Hen derson and Hogan and the latter firm took Tourist from Mr. Odom, but both horses were returned to their original owners, so today the stewards posted a notice drawing attention to rule 02. which make-such a practice a breach of the racing rules punishable by a fine, suspension or the ruling off of the offending parties.
