SKETCH SHOWING THE HOME Of CANADAS NEWEST RACING ORGANIZATION NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THE CAPITAL The above Illustration Is from a sketch of plans accepted by the Connanglit Park Jockey Clnb of Ottawa for its fine new racing plant overlooking the Ottawa River The inaugural race meeting at this track will l e held September II to 20 nejct inclusive On the left will be the club house and official building in which the Vice Kegal siiite and box will be located also a reception and ballroom This otllcial building will always be reserved for His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught and party In the center is a sketch of the grandstand with a seating capacity of four thousand and to the right will he found the betting ring and paddocks Spacious lawns are to be laid out in front of the grandstand together with aceomodations for parking automobiles and carriages Connaught Park will embrace every new and modern leature for the publics acconiodation and will be seventeen minutes ride from the new Chateau Laurier Hotel by steam and trolley The heavy grading as well as the concrete foundations for the buildings are well under way and Connaught Park will be ready between August 15 and September 1 The following are the oflicers of the club clubHis His Royal Highness the Duke of Connanght Honorary President PresidentHal Hal B McGlverin President Hon N A Belcourt VicePresident VicePresidentStewart Stewart McGJenaghan City Comptroller VicePresident VicePresidentFred Fred W Carling VicePresident Col T T Woods Chairman Finance Committee CommitteeCharles Charles SecretaryE A Irvin Honorary Secretary E S Houston Honorary Treasurer L N Bate Chairman Publicity Committee CommitteeAlbert Albert Itohrback Manager At a recent meeting of the directors in Ottawa the name wars changed from Ottawa Jockey Club Lim ¬ ited to Connaught Park Jockey Clnb in honor pt His Grace the Duke of Connaught It was decided to hive a full week of racing following the Montreal fall meeting Ottawa is one hundred miles from Mon ¬ treal on a direct line to Toronto This will make it convenient for horsemen to participate in the Ottawa meeting which is scheduled just before the second meeting in Toronto Mr Rohrhack racing manager states that the management will not install the parimutnel machines for the first meeting and the ring will be open to all reputable bookmakers Twentyfour thousand dollars in stakes and purses will be dis ¬ tributed at the inaugural meeting including the Capital City Handicap paying 1000 to the winner SIKH to second and 150 to third thirdBy By Septemlier 1 the park should be complete and ready for the horsemen Excursions for the opening meeting will be run from Toronto Montreal and all points along the line After this year the Counaught Pfcrk Jockey Club will hold two regular meetings of seven days each following the Montreal Jockey Clubs meetings meetingsManager Manager Rohrback has opened a temporary office for the new racing organization In the Morgan build ¬ ing Buffalo N Y of which city he is a resident
