STATISTICS OF THE TURF IN ENGLAND Up to and including September 20 J. B. Joel had a substantial lead in this years list of principal English winning owners, Jest being the princiial contributor to his healthy total of 0,7!0. The Manchester newspaper man, E. Unit on, was his closest competitor with S,9S0 amassed in stable earnings and Stomoway his hest winner. Lord Derby is always prominent among English owners and was third with 8,135. of which Light Brigade had won the main share. Two American owners, A. Belmont and II. P. Whitney figure in the list of winners of 5,000 or more, that list being as follows: Winning Races Amount Owner. Horses. Won. Won. His Majesty the King 3 5 2,400 J. B. Joel , 15 25 109,790 .. Jest lsi!irr, rraTaiid is done with racing, while The Telrarch holds an engagement in the 0,000 Imperial Produce Plate, to be run at Kempton Park Octolier 10. Winning this will give him first place, not only for the present, but most probably for the year. In English racing it Is rarely, if ever, that a two-year-old has figured as the chief money-winning horse of a year, but if The Tetrarch wins this- Kempton Park race his total will be about 0,000. and there is now no other horse in sight likely to win so much. The great events of this year have been so split up among different horses that this anomalous situation is the natural result of The Tetrarchs unbroken series of conquests in raees for two-year-olds. Horses that have won 2,500 or more are the following: Races Amount Horse, Col. Sex, Age and Pedigree. Won. Won. Of the two, Desmond is dead and Sundridge la in France. Desmond is slightly more than 0,000 in the lead of Sundridge and has a number of doughty representatives quite able to maintain his present supremacy to the end of the turf year. Outside of tlie two named William the Third, Roi Herode, Rock Sand and Galliuule were close together September 20. and to that date the sires whose progeny had won 5,000 or more were these: Sire, Foaled, Pedigree. Wootton is second, witli but a slight advantage over A. Whalley. The riding record to September 20 is as follows: Jockey. Mts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. P.C. Maker.
