BALSCADDEN A VERSATILE RACE HORSE. In the five-year-old Balscadden. C. Bower Ismay possessed a horse that is as much at home over obstacles as he is on the flat and a good one anywhere, or at either way of going. Last year lie went over to France and defeated the pick of tlie French jumpers in the Grand Auteuil Hurdle Race, then came to England and on the fiat won the Prince Edward Handicap at Kempton Park and the Newbury Autumn Cup at Newbury, all being races of importance. At Newbury last September 20. he for the second time won the Newbury Cup. He carried 119 pounds and D. Maher and ran its two miles and an eighth in 3:35, breaking the English and American records for the distance and recording a really remarkable performance.
