NO INTERRUPTION AT VICTORIA. Victoria, B. C, Octolier 9. That the citys efforts to prosecute the Victoria Country Club for the alleged illegal operation of gambling devices iu connection with the race meeting at The Willows will not materialize in an indictment being presented to the Grand Jury at the present assize is evident from the announcement of Duputv Attorney-Ceneral McLeod that he Is unable to get in touch with the Hon. W. J. Dowser, who is the only icrson with the authority to direct such proceedings. Mr. Dowser has gone shooting and lias left no means of communicating with him. and has failed to appoint an acting attorney-general in his absence. Consequently nothing can be done until his return, when the citys request will Immediately be brought to his attention. By this time, however, the chief aim of the city council will have been defeated, namely, to limit the racing to seven days. The meeting will have run through its nineteen days before Mr. Bowsers vacation is at an end.
