ROBERT DAVIES SUDDENLY STRICKEN. Toronto, Ont.. October 9. Serious alarm has been caused the family and friends of Robert Davies over a stroke of paralysis which seized him yesterday morning. He is much improved today, but still in a precarious condition. Mr. Davies is oue of Torontos rich men and engaged in many extensive business enterprises, never had a partner and never formed any of his holdings Into a company. Everything Is simply Robert Davies, proprietor. He has been Interested in and an owner of horses from the ago when he was able, to ride a pony and all his children have followed him. Mr. Davies has enjoyed the distinction of possessing the lending Canadian stable for several years, having been a liberal buyer, as well as a breeder at Thornciiffo Farm. Ho is sixty-four years old and a man of rugged constitution. Until a year ago he did not know anything but the best of health. Iu 1S05, when the Queens Plate was run in heats at Loudon, and won by Lady Norfolk, little "Bobby" Davies rode Nora Creina, owned by a neighbor of his father. Six years later, when he was 22 years old. he wou the Plato at Kingston with a mare called Floss, but ho has never been able to repeat that success in spite of many attempts in the interval.
